An opportunity for social innovation in the workplace

While the world has changed drastically over the last few months, our vision at Vantage Point remains constant: to build an inclusive future that represents real-world diversity in culture, ideology, background, and innovation. So how do we drive social innovation in a time where the vast inequalities that plague society are ever-increasing?

We do this by developing emerging technologies for good that unite, inspire, create shared perspective, and build empathy. Our first feat in doing this is leveraging immersive technology (VR) to train people on EQ-driven and soft skills that matter, teaching things that have to be “felt” to be resonant, and cannot be “explained,” yet impact the wellbeing of every single person.

Our team at Vantage Point has deployed Anti-Bias training with modules on the Black Lives Matter movement, racial discrimination during COVID-19, LGBTQ bullying, and Gender Inequality in the workplace. Extremely timely topics that our platform lends itself to very well.

  • Experience #1 addresses the issues regarding stereotypes and bias towards Asians in relation to today’s climate. COVID-19 will be addressed and the trainee will understand how a bias towards a marginalized group can directly affect their work culture.
  • Experience #2 addresses race issues and LGBTQ issues. This experience is centered around a black male who is defending a member of the LGBTQ community. Again, topics of today’s climate will be directly addressed (Black Lives Matter/Racism/Pride Month) and the trainee will be responsible for aiding 2 marginalized communities.
  • Experience #3 focuses on Gender Inequality in the workplace. The bias around women in the workplace is the main focus of this experience. Trainees will see just how different the dynamics of men and women in the workplace are as they are tasked with helping a coworker out of a troubling situation.

Problems around diversity, inclusion, and equity require a comprehensive training approach that goes beyond pamphlets, 2D videos, and surveys. In fact, HBR finds the positive effects of standard DEI training “rarely last beyond a day or two” and some can even “activate bias or spark a backlash.” In contrast, VR training can increase retention by 75%.

In a time that can be isolating and polarizing, Virtual Reality offers empathy, connection, self-awareness, and empowerment. We at Vantage Point commit to delivering this, no matter what the future landscape of work looks like.

We are now delivering distributed Virtual Reality training to remote teams in a way that is cost-effective, easy-to-manage, and accessible to all employers, especially in the wake of COVID-19. We are committed to continuing to innovate and leverage technology to deliver a future beyond the crisis that is empathetic, empowered, inclusive, and united: Our Anti-Bias training is just the beginning.
